European records are shattered in thrilling session at National Championships

Two new European records were set during the final session of day one at the Swim England Masters National Championships.

And there was a also dead heat as two swimmers shared a new British record and the national title in a thrilling Men’s 100m Butterfly 25-29 Years race.

Alyson Fordham was the first to set a new European best as she clocked 2:28.49 in the Women’s 200m Freestyle 60-64 Years age group.

The Romford Town swimmer’s time was 1.22 seconds quicker than Caradon’s Helen Kula-Przezwanski, who finished in 2:29.71 to take the silver medal.

Otter’s Derek Parr also claimed a new European record in the Men’s 100m Butterfly 75-79 Years race.

His time of 1:21.20 saw him top the podium by more than 15-and-a-half seconds ahead of silver medallist Roger Lloyd-Mostyn (1:36.73).

Ryan Flanagan and Adam Fawl shared the new British record in the 25-29 Years category as they both touched home in a time of 54.53.

Warrington’s Ben Harkin also set a new British best in the 40-44 Years event with a time of 57.57 – the only man in the age group to drop under 60 seconds.
