Two world records open up day three of the 2022 Masters Nationals

Two new world records opened up the final day of the 2022 Swim England Masters National Championships in Sheffield.

Both world best efforts came in the Mixed 4x200m Freestyle Team event with Birmingham Masters and Trafford Metro writing their names into the record books.

Birmingham Masters and their 320+ Years team were the first British quartet to ever set a time in the category but they excelled themselves by breaking the world record time in doing so.

The team of Judy Wilson, Arthur Lowe, Pauline Cooke and John Tennant have an average of 80 but showed you can still be at the top of your game as they touched the wall in 14:26.47 to set a new world’s best time.

Their effort knocked more than 16 seconds off the former record as they became the first European team to swim the race in under 15 minutes.

Not to be outdone, Trafford Metro’s 120+ Years team then took to the pool to set the new world record in a time of 8:07.91.

James Gibson, Holly Booth, Victoria Cunningham and Daniel Mills made up the team that took almost five seconds off the world record time.

It was a stunning effort from all four members of the team as they finished in the quickest time in the competition across all age groups.

There was also a European record in the Mixed 4x200m Freestyle set by Harrogate District swimming club (240+ Years).

Stephen Allen, Julie Hoyle, Karen Graham and Nicholas Parkes finished in 9:36.28 as they became the new European record holders.

Records tumble in the Women’s Butterfly

A European record was equalled in the Women’s 50m Butterfly thanks to Lindsay Gowland.

The Black Country n Potteries Masters Swimming Club member equalled the European record in the 65-69 Years event in a time of 35.38 as she became the first British swimmers to go under the 36 second time.

Three new British records were also set in the Women’s 50m Butterfly by Victoria Reading, Harriet Rogers and Judy Wilson.

Reading beat the record in the 35-39 Years event which saw her narrowly finished quicker than Teddington’s Georgina Heyn who also swam under the previous British record time.

The new benchmark time is a 28.57 set by the Northampton swimmer.

Loughborough University’s Rogers narrowly beat the previous national best in the 18-24 Years race by 0.09. The 18-Year old dashed to the wall in 27.14.

After being part of Birmingham Masters’ world record effort Wilson was back in the pool as she broke the national record in the 75-79 Years category.

Her time was a 40.15 as she knocked 0.56 off the previous best time.

Emerson hits new European best

In the Men’s 50m Butterfly East Leeds swimmer David Emerson (60-64 Years) set the new top European time with a time of 27.05.

Emerson who set a new European record in the Men’s 50m Freestyle (60-64 Years) yesterday added another in this morning’s session to continue his successful weekend.

GB Police swimmer Bradley Price then added a British record in the 30-34 Years category.

His time of 24.29 was a new national best for the 30-year-old which was two seconds quicker than his nearest challenger in Sheffield.

Amanda Heath sets another record

Amanda Heath put another record to her name after setting the Women’s 65-69 Years 200m Individual Medley record.

The Spencer Swim Team member finished in 2:58.24 as she became the new European record holder after becoming the first to break the three-minute barrier in her age group.

It adds to her successful weekend where she has already set a new world record as a part of Spencer’s Women’s 280+ Years 4x100m Medley Team.

Helen Gorman also added to her world record from yesterday as she set a new British best in the 50-54 Years age group.

Her time of 2:31.25 saw the City of Cardiff swimmer knock more than two seconds off the previous British best.

After just missing out on the British record in the 50m Butterfly Teddington swimmer Heyn did get the national record in the 35-39 Years category.

She beat the previous record by more than a second with a time of 2:24.65.

On the men’s side of the 200m Individual Medley a British record also fell thanks to Team England’s Birmingham 2022 athlete James McFadzen.

The Loughborough University swimmer set a time of 1:59.96 to be the first swimmer to go under two minutes to set the British Masters record in the 18-24 Years event.

Four records fall in the 100m Freestyle

The 100m Freestyle rounded off the session with four new records to round off the morning session on day three.

In the Men’s 100m Freestyle David Emerson was back in the pool again for East Leeds to add his second record of the session.

Following on from his European record in the 50m Butterfly, he added to it with another European record time finishing in 57.47 as he set another benchmark time in the 60-64 Years.

Steve Grossman of Wellingborough added another British record to his growing list of accomplishments in the 70-74 Years.

His time of a 1:05.57 meant he was the first Brit to go under the 1:06.00 as he became the new record holder.

Alyson Fordham and Fleur Turner both set British records on the women’s side of the event.

Turner (45-49 Years) set a time of 1:00.18 which narrowly gave the Basingstoke swimmer the new best time with by just 0.01.

Bishop Stortford’s Fordham set the best time in the 65-69 Years event as she touched the wall in 1:08.96 to set the new fastest British Masters time.
