Suzanne Noble hits European best in opening session of Masters Nationals

There was a lightening start to the GoCardless Swim England Masters National Championships 2023 with four British and one European record broken in the opening session at Ponds Forge.

The competition began with the 1500m Freestyle events as East Anglia swimmer Suzanne Noble stole the show with a new European record time.

Noble managed to knock more than a twenty seconds off the previous best, with a swim of 20:19.11 in the Female 60-64 age group.

The old record stood at a 20:44:63, which was recorded by Audrey Cooper of Silver City.

There was another good swim on display this morning as Robert Barker broke another British record.

The 64-year-old swimming for the Kingston Royals, recorded a time of 18:49:75 going just 5 seconds under the record.

The same record that was set by Duncan McCreadie back in 2005. 18:54:83 was the official time and has taken 18 years to beat.

As far as records go, there was more to be broken in the morning session. Peter Dixon who swims for the Borough of Newham crushed the 2018 record by more than 50 seconds.

It one was new record and one lost for Barker with Dixon breaking his best with a time of 18:13:76.

Dixon the 55-year-old recorded an incredible time of 17:22:42 ensuring his 55-59 age group British record.

The final British record of session one was broken by City of Cambridge’s Silvia Ferdin, who went 14 seconds under the previous record time for the Female 55-59 Years event. .

The 59-year-old set a staggering 19:44:85 whilst the old record belonging to Cate Jackson was swam in a time of 19:57:24.

Welsh swimmer Christopher Goulden also broke his country’s record with a time of 21:29:96 in the Open/Male 65-69 Years category.
