New world best from Bristol Henleaze and two European records for Georgina Pryor

Bristol Henleaze recorded a new world best time in the opening session of the final day in Sheffield.

Their time of 1:38.76 took 0.61 off the previous record in the 100+ Years Mixed 4x50m Freestyle Team event.

The swimmers who achieved that feat were Richard Knight, Scott Macdougall, Annie Brown and Rebecca Guy.

They were almost five seconds quicker than the remaining quartets in their age group, with the nearest side being Trafford Metro who finished in 1:43.23.

Although that result was not a record-breaking swim, Trafford Metro did set a new British record time in the 240+ Years age group.

Neil Mackinnon, Judy Brown, Helen Sadler and Peter Wilmot teamed up to set a time of 1:58.86.

Pryor powers to double European glory

Derby Excel swimmer Georgina Pryor added a third European record to her collection, after achieving her first as part of the 72+ Years Mixed 4x100m Medley Team on day two.

However, this time she has two individual records, the first which came in the 25-29 Years Female 100m Butterfly.

Pryor clocked in at 58.98 to knock more than a second off the previous best and take the gold medal.

Her second European record was achieved as part of the 4x50m Medley Team. Her backstroke leg saw an impressive split time of 28.10, which was a new 50m Backstroke record for her age group.

Both Louisa Zolkiewski and Michelle Ware were the other record-breaking swimmers in the Female 100m Butterfly.

Woking’s Ware set the new British record for the 50-54 Years age group at 1:07.13 and Zolkiewski of Trafford Metro managed 1:02.29 in the 30-34 Years.

Grossman grabs first European best

Steve Grossman of Wellingborough set his first European record of the competition in the 70-74 Years Open/Male 200m Freestyle.

The 71-year-old lowered the record by 0.5 after he touched the wall in 2:26.51.

Two new British records were also set earlier in the 200m Freestyle event, thanks to Mark Reynolds and Paul Barnard.

Barnet Copthall’s Reynolds swam a time of 2:07.57 in the 60-64 Years age group and Trafford Metro Barnard went 1:55.56 in the 40-44 Years age group.

Hat-trick for Harkin

Session one of day three saw a hat-trick of records for Warrington’s Ben Harkin.

The 45-year-old has enjoyed a successful time throughout the three day competition and set all three new British best times in the 45-49 Years age group.

The first was a two-in-one swim, with Harkin breaking the Open/Male 100m Butterfly record in 56.57.

His pace also saw him break the 50m Butterfly record, which now stands at 25.88.

To round off his hat-trick, the Warrington swimmer then managed a time of 27.06 for his backstroke leg of the 4x50m Medley Team.

Daniel Cross of Dartmoor achieved a similar feat, as he set a new British record in the 25-29 Years 50m Backstroke after playing his part in the relay and recording a split time of 25.04.

His side also went on to set a new British record for the race overall – the 100+ Years Open/Male 4x50m Medley Relay.

Cross featured alongside Kieran Preston, Jake Tyson and Regan Lloyd and clocked a time of 1:40.12.

A number of other age groups saw new British records in the Open/Male event.

Basingstoke are the new record holders in the 200+ Years age group following a 1:51.02 courtesy of Oliver Espinasse, Martin Bennell, David Milburn and Spencer Turner.

Jason Kenney, Mark Jones, Ian McKay and Keith Johnston of Warrender teamed up to swim a 2:06.51 in the 240+ Years age group.

And it was another record for Trafford Metro in the 280+ Years age group. Alec Johnson, Neville Barton, Geoffrey Holme and Neil Mackinnon finished in 2:20.13.

In the Female 4x50m Medley Relay, Derby Excel did as their name states as they set a new British best time in the 72+ Years age group through Georgina Pryor, Imogen Clark, Ellie Tennant and Anya Preece.
