Records broken in the opening session of the Masters Nationals

The 2025 GoCardless Swim England Masters National Championships got off to a strong start with the first session featuring the demanding 1500m Freestyle, contested across both Open/Male and Female categories.

There was cause for celebration in the final heat of the event as Daniel Mills, representing Trafford Metro, delivered a standout swim to set a new British and European record in the 30-34 age group, touching in at 15:58.91.

With this performance, Mills became the first British swimmer in his age category to break the 16-minute barrier over 1500m – a remarkable achievement that drew well-deserved applause from the crowd.

Also making headlines was Chris Tainty of Camphill Edwardians, who set a new British record in the 65-69 age group, finishing in a time of 19:34.08.

These outstanding swims set the tone for what promises to be an exciting weekend of Masters competition, as swimmers from across the country come together to celebrate their passion for the sport and showcase talent across all ages.
