Warren caps remarkable day with third individual record

David Warren set his third British record in as many sessions to cap a remarkable day at the 2015 British Masters and Senior Age Group Championships in Manchester.

The Otter swimmer had already lowered two of his own British 40-44 Yrs records in the 200m Free and 200m IM in the opening two sessions. But he set his name to a new event with gold in the 100m Freestyle in the final session on day two. He touched in 55.09 to equal Ian Jeffrey’s British marker.

Chesterfield’s Ben Harkin returned to win gold in a British record for the second successive session, winning the 35-39 Yrs 100m Freestyle in 53.37 to add to his 50m Fly title from session five.

Guildford’s Michelle Ware and Putteridge’s Lawrence Palmer also clocked their second individual British records of the day in the 100m Freestyle and 50m Breaststroke respectively.

Ware was more than a second under Marie Royal’s previous marker from 2005 as she took 40-44 Yrs gold in 1:01.05 while Palmer took the Senior Age Group (18-24 Yrs) record in 28.17.

The only other new British 50m Breaststroke record of the day came in one of the oldest age bands as Birmingham’s Keith Ingram clocked 42.47 to dive 0.8 seconds under the old record.

Three British records broken in 200m Fly

The 200m Fly saw three British records broken including both Senior Age Group (18-24 Yrs) times in the shape of Bath University’s Matthew Johnson (2:03.07) and Alex Kaye (2:21.94) respectively.

Trafford Metro’s Lucy Lloyd-Roach was the other record-breaker, repeating her feat from the opening day’s 100m Fly as she took 30-34 Yrs gold in 2:25.29 to take down World Masters Championship gold medallist Nicola Latty’s 11-year old record of 2:26.15.

Carn Brea’s Ali Phesse and East Leeds’ Nina Williams both ducked under the old British record in the 45-49 Yrs with Phesse ultimately taking gold in 1:03.10 and Williams silver in 1:03.18.

Williams also helped East Leeds to gold and a British record in the 160+ Yrs mixed 4x50m Freestyle Relay as she teamed up with Paul Clemence, Philippa Rickard and Chris Knee to set an impressive 1:47.07.

There were also a British records in the 120+ Yrs age group as GB Police’s Brian Steatham, Hayley Bird, Aimee Ramm and Aaron Jones touched home in 1:44.59.
