Williams becomes oldest British Masters champion at London 2016

Dorothy Williams became the oldest Brit to win a gold medal on the third day of the London 2016 European Masters Swimming Championships.

Competing in the 90-94 Years age group, the Kings Cormorants swimmer won the 50m Backstroke event in 1:11.05 as seven other British women topped the podium on the third day in London.

Hattle, Latty and Keir claim butterfly golds

There were three golds in the 200m Butterfly as Judith Hattle, Nicola Latty and Rachael Keir all finished on top in their age groups.

Having won 100m Fly silver on day two in London, Hattle went one better over twice the distance, touching in 2:49.76 to win the 55-59 Years age group.

Nene Vally swimmer Latty was also winning her second medal of the Championships, adding to 200m Individual Medley bronze with victory in 2:34.84 in the 45-49 Years age group.

Keir’s British record 2:23.97 in the 30-34 Years age group was her second gold of the week, having won the 200m IM on day one, and the Silver City Blues swimmer was joined by Trafford Metro’s Lucy Lloyd-Roach who won bronze in 2:27.55.

Beside Williams, Spencer Swim Team’s Janet Brown was the only other British champion in the 50m Backstroke, lifting the 75-79 Years title in 46.30 with Brighton Dolphins’ Jose Adam joining her on the podium with silver on 51.26.

Mid Sussex Marlins’ Kathy Bidnall and Etwall Eagles’ Kathleen Tunnicliffe both made the podium in the 60-64 Years 50m Backstroke, winning silver nad bronze in 39.30 and 40.11 respectively.

There were also British records for Guildford’s Michelle Ware, who won 40-44 Years 50m Back silver in 32.07, and Bracknell & Wokingham swimmer Kirsty Johnson, who took 35-39 Years silver in 32.21.

Gorman, Wilson and Ford complete breaststroke doubles

For the second day running, Helen Gorman, Clare Wilkinson and Karen Key completed a clean sweep of the medals in the 40-44 Years age group, having won gold, silver and bronze in yesterday’s 50m Breaststroke.

Long Eaton swimmer Gorman finished on top again in 1:15.65 while Northampton’s Key took silver in 1:18.90 and Kenilworth swimmer Wilkinson came home for bronze in 1:19.46.

Derwentside’s Rachael Wilson also completed a 50m and 100m Breaststroke double, winning the 25-29 Years title in 1:10.63 – more than two seconds faster than the old British record and only 0.5 seconds shy of the existing Masters world record.

Spencer Swim Team’s Diane Ford was the third British swimmer to add 100m Breast gold to her victory in yesterday’s 50m Breast, touching in 1:41.99 in the 70-74 Years age group with Southport’s Frances Helen Jenkins following her home for silver in 1:44.76.

There were two British relay quartets to win Mixed 4x50m Medley Relay gold as Spencer Swim Team took the touch in the 320-359 Years age group and East Leeds claimed the 160-199 Years title.

The Spencer quartet of Roger Burrell, Muriel Hitchcock, Susan Lauder and Barney Miller clocked a British record 4:09.69 for their gold while East Leeds’ Phillip Pratt, Alistair Crawford, Philippa Rickard and Karen Graham also clocked a British record with their 1:57.46 effort.
