Swim England launches technical officials experience survey

More than 2,000 technical officials are being asked their views as part of a Swim England survey to help provide the best support for new volunteers.

It is the first time Swim England has sent out a questionnaire to technical officials in a bid to ensure it is offering the highest level of training and development.

The survey, which closes at midnight on Thursday 28 February, has been emailed to all timekeepers, trainee Judge 1 and Judge 1 individuals who gained their qualifications in 2018.

Mark Davies, chairperson of the Swim England Officials Group, said: “By taking part in this survey, current officials are helping to shape the delivery of the training and support we provide to officials who are starting their journey.

“We want to ensure we have a motivated group of officials to facilitate the delivery of swimming events at all levels.”

It will take around five to 10 minutes to complete the survey and all responses are gathered on an anonymous basis and treated in accordance with the Market Research Society’s Code of Conduct.

Essential role

Claire Coleman, Swim England head of volunteering and pathways, said: “Technical officials deliver an essential role within our sport and we simply wouldn’t be able to host competitions at any level without them.

“We rely on qualified officials who ensure all competitions are conducted in a fair and safe manner and that athletes comply with the rules of the sport.

“The results of the survey will enable Swim England, the regions and counties to deliver a positive and quality volunteer training and experience.

“By consulting with our current technical officials, we will gain feedback on what we do well, what we can do better and what volunteers would like to see from Swim England, the regions and counties.”
