City of Manchester and Otter go unbeaten through U19 Prelims

Defending champions City of Manchester were unbeaten as they booked their place in the next round of the Girls’ U19 National Age Group Water Polo Championships.

Otter also claimed a 100 per cent record as they finished top of their group in the preliminaries, held at Northampton School for Boys on 24 February.

In Group A, City of Manchester defeated City of Liverpool 7-1, Otter Futura 12-7 and Cheltenham 15-0 to seal top spot. City of Liverpool claimed second place as they defeated Cheltenham 16-2 and Otter Futura 14-4.

Otter defeated Welsh Wanderers 7-1, Newton Abbot 9-2 and Rotherham 9-2 to finish ahead of Rotherham in Group B.

Rotherham booked their place in the next round with victories over Newton Abbot (6-3) and Welsh Wanderers (10-5).

The qualification round, which takes place on 17-18 March at East Manchester Leisure Centre, will determine the ranking of the four teams going through to finals weekend, also in Manchester, on 14-15 April.

City of Manchester have won the Dougie Scales Memorial Trophy eight times, including in 2017, when they defeated 2016 champions London Otter.
