England take home gold at EU Nations

The England U19 Water Polo squad were undefeated as they won gold at the EU Nations women’s water polo tournament in Czech Republic.

England scored a total of 84 goals and only conceded 29. Sixty-one of the goals scored by the team were in the group stages of the competition where the team took on Switzerland, the home team Czech Republic, and Scotland to finish top of the table.

The U19 team started the tournament with a 14-5 victory over Switzerland and finished the first day with a 23-8 win against the hosts Czech Republic.

Day two saw the team finish 24-8 against Scotland in the final match of the group stage.

This sterling performance put the team into the semi-final against Group A runners up, South Africa.

The nail-biting match saw a final score line of 9-7 to England and secured the young team’s place in the final against Switzerland.

Dominant from the start

England were dominant from the start in the final.

They finished the first quarter 5-0 ahead and continued to increase their lead. England took the title beating Switzerland 14-1.

Swim England Performance Athlete of the Year Sophie Jackson was named goalkeeper of the tournament during the medal ceremony.

The win for the England women’s team completes a great month for water polo.

Earlier in the month the GB men’s U19 team qualified for the European Champs and England’s senior men took the title in the EU Nations tournament.
