GBR win opening European match

The GBR water polo team gave a strong performance to win their opening match of the LEN European Junior Water Polo Championships qualification tournament.

After a dominating first and third quarter, the team finished 11-2 (0-3, 1-1, 0-4, 1-3) against Lithuania in Manchester.

Captain Connor Carpenter said: “A lot of effort and dedication has gone into this, and the lads turned up today.”

Assistant Coach Mike Yates described the team as having put on a disciplined performance.

GBR’s second Group C game will be against Israel who lost 5-11 to Ukraine in their opener in Manchester.
