Top tips for looking after your physical and mental health

It is always important to maintain a healthy mind and body.

Swim England’s sports science sports medicine manager, Diane Elliot, said: “These tips provide some simple advice around how to maintain your mental and physical wellness.”

Here are some key aspects that you can work on.

Make sure you have a variety of different food types on each plate and ensure it is colourful.

Stay in touch with friends and teammates and when needed, ask for help and advice from parents, coaches or teachers. Work together, look after each other and remember, we have #GotUrBack

Do some puzzles, read a book or maybe even enrol on a free online course if you're looking to learn a new skill.

Stay in the present and calm the mind with things such as colouring, relaxation, meditation or looking at nature.

Have a plan and timetable for each day. Make a list of priority tasks and tick off when you have completed a task.

Make sure you are exercising, whether this is training sessions or simply going out for a walk to get some fresh air and sunlight. However, make sure you have one rest day in the week.

Keep in touch with people and stay connected. This could be something as simple as just sending a text.

Focus on what is controllable. Things not in your control will drain your energy. Highlight two things each day that occur and are positive.
