Entry dates confirmed for the 2023 British Masters Championships

Entries for the British Masters Championships 2023 will open on Wednesday 22 March ahead of the competition in Sheffield.

The Championships are being held at Ponds Forge International Pool between 2-4 June where England will host the event for the first time since 2018.

The competition hosts Britain’s fastest Masters swimmers in a meet which often sees World, European and British records broken.

This was clearer than ever last year when more than 50 records were broken at the 2022 British Masters Championships in Aberdeen.

And this year is a special one for the competition as para-swimmers will get the opportunity to take part in the Championships in their own multi-classifications races for the very first time.

Para-swimming will be integrated into the programme as a trial, with medals up for grabs for classified para-swimmers in the below events:

  • 50m Freestyle (S1-S14)
  • 100m Freestyle (S1-S14)
  • 100m Backstroke (S1-S14)
  • 100m Breaststroke (SB1-9, SB11-14)
  • 100m Butterfly (S1-S14)
  • 200m Ind. Medley (SM6-SM14)
  • 50m Backstroke (S1-S14)
  • 50m Breaststroke (SB1-9, SB11-14)
  • 50m Butterfly (S1-S14)

Following the competition, there will be an evaluation and review taken to further develop and enhance the inclusion of para-swimming at the British Masters Championships.

Two stages of entry

Entries for the event will open in two phases.

The first phase, which opens on 22 March, will allow competitors to enter up to five individual events, subject to them meeting the qualifying times set for phase 1.

Individuals can also enter the relay events where they can swim in one team per event.

Entries will then close at 12 noon on Wednesday 12 April before re-opening a week later for phase 2 entries.

Entries will open to all competitors during phase 2 who meet the set qualifying times for that phase– and competitors will be able to enter up to eight individual events, which is the maximum for the Championships.

Subject to availability, phase 2 and final entries will then close at 12 noon on Wednesday 10 May 2023.

Ahead of the competition, the entry pack, which includes the event conditions, has now also been released, which you can find on the British Masters Championships website along with the already published schedule and qualifying times here.
