Guy lowers world mark on second day of British Masters Championships 2025
June 14, 2025 Masters NewsDay two of the British Masters Championships 2025 at the London Aquatics Centre saw an electrifying surge of record-breaking swims, with eight new European records claimed – anchored by a world-beating display from Rebecca Guy.
The athlete, of Bristol Henleaze, lit up the crowd with her efforts in session five. Already a multiple world-record holder, she unleashed a blistering 25.33 to lower her own mark in the Women’s 30/34 50m Freestyle. Guy’s performance echoed the quality on show throughout the three sessions on offer at the iconic venue in the capital.
Although most of the day’s records came from relays, SD Trojan’s Jo Corben bucked the trend with a rapid effort in her Women’s 55/59 50m Backstroke. Having already held multiple records throughout her career, her time of 32.80 was enough for the gold not only in her own age group, but also in those two groups down.
Relay teams kept pace with the solo heroics, delivering six further European records across the day. City of Sheffield led the charge with a swift 1:54.19 in the Mixed 240+ 4x50m Freestyle Relay – helped by a huge 26.81 anchor leg. Woking, who have proved dominant in relays as the weekend has developed, put in a formidable 4:31.25 in the 200+ Mixed 4x100m Medley Team – taking the title in that event by a huge 25 seconds.
Basingstoke brought double delight, setting records in both women’s and men’s 160+ relay events: 1:51.09 in the 200m Women’s Freestyle and 1:49.08 in the Men’s Medley. Okehampton also took a continental mark in that men’s event, as their 120+ team recorded a time of 1:43.06, and B C & P’s visible perseverance and fight in the 280+ Women’s 4x50m Medley Team paid dividends as they took a record of their own in a time of 2:37.01 – adding to the freestyle record they took the night before.

With just one day to go and a total of 58 British, 20 European and four world records in the bag, the British Masters Championships 2025 promises more sensational swims to come on the final day tomorrow. Two sessions will close out proceedings, and the action resumes at 9am.
