British Masters swimmers make raid into FINA’s all-time lists

There’s no stopping the charge of British Masters swimmers on the world stage if FINA’s newly published all-time top 10 swim lists are anything to go by.

Between the short and long course lists which have been updated with results from 2014 and go as far back as 1986, there are more than 80 new entries from British swimmers, ranging from the youngest 25 – 29 years age group to John Harrison in the 100 – 104 years category.

Harrison was one of six British swimmers to enter the rankings at number one with world records during 2014, setting a new long course 100m Freestyle time in the 100 – 104 years age group.

Judy Wilson enters record books for 50m and 100m Fly

Birmingham Masters’ Judy Wilson – who won five golds at the 2014 Masters World Championships in Montreal last year – was another of these, setting short and long course records for both 50m and 100m Butterfly in the 70 – 74 years age group last year.

There were two short course world records for British backstroke swimmers with teamipswich’s Zoe Cray breaking the marker in the 40 – 44 years age group and Guildford’s Marco Loughran setting a new record in the 25 – 29 years age group.

Spencer swimmer Diane Ford (70 – 74 years 100m Breast) and East Leeds’ Kirsten Cameron (40 – 44 years 1500m Free) were the other two swimmers to top the all-time rankings with a 2014 effort.
