Leander swimmers smash world record at second attempt

Nottingham Leander’s Iain MacMillan, Selena Burgess, Alex Thurston and Becky Milnes smashed the 120+ yrs Age Group world 4x200m Mixed Freestyle Relay record at specially hosted Masters Relay Gala last weekend.

The quartet originally broke the old record of 8:24.10 at this month’s ASA National Masters Championships in Sheffield.

But their time of 8:15.25 couldn’t be ratified as a world record due to technical problems with the electronic timing.

The four swimmers were determined not to let the record slip through their grasp and had another attempt at the University of Nottingham pool this weekend.

Not only did they smash the record (again) but they went even faster than their winning time from the Masters Champs, setting a new marker of 8:13.69.

Congratulations to Iain, Selena, Alex and Becky!
