Five new European records set to start day two at Swim England Masters Nationals

Five European records were set in the opening session on day two of the 2022 Swim England Masters National Championships.

Nine new British records were also set on a thrilling start to the day as the records continued to fall at Ponds Forge International Pool, Sheffield.

Two of those European records came at the end of the session when both Trafford Metro and Spencer Swim Team became European record holders in the Women’s 4x50m Medley Team event.

It was Trafford Metro who set the record in the 240+ Years race with a time of 2:20.46 saw their quartet of Rachel Barton, Geraldine Bolton, Helen Sadler and Judy Brown hit the record time.

Spencer Swim Team’s squad of Amanda Heath, Esther Iseppi, Diane Ford and Helen Trippe are the new European record holders in the 280+ Years category.

A stunning swim from all four competitors saw them knock 2.78 off the European best time as they set a 2:46.19.

There was also a British record set in the Women’s 4x50m Medley Team.

Cardiff Masters then set the new record in the 100+ Years with a time of 2:03.37 thanks to their team made up of Danielle Stirrat, Carys Thomas, Isabella Centeleghe and Hannah Palfrey.

Hoyle hits her second European record in two days

Harrogate District Swimming Club’s Julie Hoyle set her second European record in as many days as she set the new top time in the 60-64 Years Women’s 50m Backstroke.

Hoyle’s time was a 33.77 in what was a stunning swim from the 60-year-old swimmer.

The result added to her effort from yesterday when she was crowned the new European record holder in the Women’s 60-64 Years 100m Backstroke as well as being part of Harrogate’s team that set a new world record in the 200+ Years Women’s 4x200m Freestyle.

Emma Scobie of Kirkintilloc also entered the European record books as her time in 28.38 became the new European best time.

She raced to the wall in 28.38 to become the new record holder.

The records continued to tumble in the event including one from Team England’s 2022 Commonwealth Games athlete Lauren Cox.

Cox set a new record in the 18-24 Years event as the 21-year old’s time of a 28.09 beat the previous British Masters record.

Jo Corben then added her second record of the meet with the 52 year-old setting the top time in the 50-54 Years category. The time from the S D Trojan swimmer was a 31.88.

Grossman and Hodgson become multiple record holders

Steve Grossman and Michael Hodgson got another record under their belts as they set new British bests  in the opening session.

Grossman’s time of a 35.04 knocked 0.30 off the previous record in the Men’s 70-74 Years 200m Butterfly event as he finished over three seconds faster than his nearest challenger on the day.

There was another British record in the Men’s 100m Breaststroke when Hodgson set a new national best time with a 1:07.71.

The Woking swimmer set the time in the 55-59 Years category.

Birmingham Masters set British standard

Birmingham Masters’ team of Arthur Lowe, Pauline Cooke, John Tennant and Judy Wilson became the British record holders in the 320+ Years Mixed 4x100m Freestyle.

The quartet set the benchmark time of 6:19.86 as they became the first British team to ever set a time in the event.

Trio of records set in the Women’s 100m Breaststroke

Three records fell in the Women’s 100m Breaststroke after a number of strong swims across the event.

Amanda Heath was back in the pool and on top of her game as she set a new European record in the 65-69 Years category.

The 65-year old continued her form from yesterday where she set both a European and a British record to set another European record with a time of 1:28.21.

Teddington’s Georgina Heyn set a British record with a 1:11.11 in the 35-39 Years event with Loughborough University’s Tatiana Belonogoff rounding out the record breaking trio with a new British best time of 1:05.44 in the 18-24 Years category.

Men’s medley magic

Two British records were set in the Men’s 4x50m Medley Team as teams from both Warrington Masters and East Leeds put themselves into the record books.

In the 200+ Years category was where the team from Warrington of Trevor Eland, Ben Harkin, Spencer Glover and Russell Mason set a new British best time of 1:53.38.

Their effort was 1.41 quicker than the previous fastest time in the event.

After a successful day yesterday, East Leeds added a British record to their growing list of accolades throughout the weekend.

The team of Samuel Lawman, Alistair Crawford, Chris Knee and Paul Clemence set the record breaking effort in the 199 Years+ category in a time of 1:44.44.

All four of the quartet combined once again after they teamed up to set a world record in the 160+ Years Men’s 4x50m Freestyle on the opening day.
