
Masters swimmers look to London at 2015 Conference
November 30, 2015The ASA Masters Swimming 2015 Conference was held at SportPark, Loughborough on 29 November 2015. Around 50 delegates attended the event, helping to guide the future direction of the sport.
The conference, which has become a strong addition to the Masters swimming calendar, provides the opportunity for on-going engagement between the Master community and the ASA. It also created an open forum to discuss issues effecting Masters swimmers.
The 2015 conference programme included inspirational presentations, performance advice and training tips from a range of guest speakers focused on how to achieve success at the LEN European Masters Championships 2016 in London.
2015 Conference Speakers included:
Verity Dobbie: Masters blogger and Chair of the British Masters Committee and ASA Working Group
Describing next year’s LEN European Masters Championships in London as the “most exciting development opportunity for British Masters in a generation”, Verity opened the 2015 conference with her take on the event, what we can expect and what we should be doing to create a fabulous experience for the British competitors and a genuine legacy for Masters.

Karen Howells: Sport Psychologist
Karen has provided sport and performance psychology support to a wide range of athletes including swimmers aged 9 to 52, at age group, youth, elite and masters levels.
She talked to delegates about the psychological barriers to Masters training and competing, including the benefits of imagery in preparation for a race.
Dave Hemmings: Coach at Loughborough GBR National Training Centre
Dave currently coaches at the National Centre for Swimming in Loughborough with 16 senior and junior international swimmers including Jack Burnell, Roberto Pavoni and Molly Renshaw.

David has 15 years coaching experience at both club and international level and spoke to delegates about how to train for the LEN European Masters Championships, including his tips for the perfect streamlining.
Stephanie Proud: Speedo representative and London 2012 Olympian
Stephanie was on hand to explain why Masters swimmers should wear ‘skins’, how to find the right costume and answered questions on different designs and fits.
Jane Asher: 85 year-old Masters swimmer and world record holder
Jane gave an insightful presentation about her experiences in the pool and told delegates her top tips for success.
