Milne and Wilson land 100m Fly titles at World Masters

Graeme Milne and Judy Wilson swept to World Championship gold in the 100m Fly events on day four in Budapest.

Having won seven medals in the 50m Fly 24 hours earlier, British swimmers racked up another 10 podium places in the two-lap event.

Milne won his first gold of the meet with victory in the 60-64 Yrs age group, retaining his title from Kazan two years ago.

The Truro City swimmer touched in 1:09.85 for the win, finishing just 0.04 seconds ahead of South Africa’s Andre Roothman.

The summit of the World Championship podium is also a familiar place for Birmingham Masters’ Wilson, who reclaimed her title from 2014 with gold.

Repeating her result from yesterday’s 50m Fly, Wilson put in a dominant performance to claim top spot by more than six seconds on 1:26.50.

East Anglian Swallow Tails swimmer Pat Jackson joined her British compatriot on the podium. Jackson picked up her first medal of the competition with bronze in 1:50.15.

British records for Adamson, Kahn and Hodgson

In the men’s events, David Adamson, Greg Kahn and Mike Hodgson all took down British records to reach the 100m Fly podium.

Otter swimmer Adamson swept to bronze in the 30-34 Yrs age group, clocking 56.56 from lane one in his heat. The time eclipsed Mike Fibbens’ 17-year old record of 56.68, set in Munich in August 2000.

Spencer swimmer Kahn was also third in his age group, setting a national record 56.69 for bronze in the 45-49 Yrs age group.

Meanwhile, Guildford City’s Hodgson claimed his third medal in as many days with silver in the 50-54 Yrs age group.

Hodgson stopped the clock on 1:01.33, lowering his own record from the Rushmoor Royals meet less than a month ago.

Sally Mills captures first medal of 2017 Worlds

Mid Sussex Marlins swimmer Sally Mills claimed her first medal of the meet in the women’s 100m Fly.

Competing in the 60-64 Yrs age group, Mills achieved the same result as at last year’s European Championships, taking bronze.

But while she was third fastest on the day, Mills was the top European home and more than four seconds faster than in London last year.

The other three medallists were all returning to the podium in Budapest, securing the same result as in yesterday’s 50m Fly event.

Bishops Stortford swimmer Elizabeth Bellinger took bronze in the 35-39 Yrs age group, clocking 1:06.79.

Bronze in the 50-54 Yrs age group went to Team Anglia’s Liz Woolner as she came home in 1:10.43.

Carlisle Aquatics’ Judy Hattle was the other medallist, scooping silver for the third consecutive day in Hungary with a 1:10.43 effort in the 55-59 Yrs age group.
