Shrewsbury Masters New Year Gala - 10th January 2015

Just 10 days into the New Year 127 swimmers made the trip to Shrewsbury for the now traditional curtain raiser to the new Masters season.

The Quarry Swimming & Fitness Centre played host to the 11th staging of the New Year Gala (organised by Shrewsbury Masters).

The event attracted a good spread of clubs with a large majority travelling from the surrounding Midland, North Wales and the North West regions.

Prizes for the top three swimmers in each group are always a little different at this gala and 2015 was the year of the Cool Bag! A nice and practical idea from the organisers.

Birmingham Masters top visiting team

The top visiting team award was won by Birmingham Masters who beat Loughborough Town into second with last years winners Cinderford in third place. Etwall Eagles and Whitchurch Wasps occupied the final two places in the top five. A total of 32 Clubs were represented on the day.

As normal the gala was swam in a fun and friendly environment with plenty of officials and volunteers on hand to ensure a smooth running.

With the swimming over, competitors had the option of an evening social featuring a live band, always a welcome addition to any event.
