Silver City Blues smash 4x200m Free world record in Aberdeen

Silver City Blues set a 4x200m Freestyle Relay world record in an action-packed fifth session of the British Masters Championships 2017 in Aberdeen.

The Mixed 4x200m Free quartet of Rachael Keir, Laura Robertson, Alastair Honey and David Sutherland clocked 8:47.32 to win the 100-119 Years gold.

Their time smashed the old world record of 8:54.27, set by Newcastle Swim Team at last year’s British Masters Champs in Sheffield.

Basingstoke Bluefins completed a relay hat-trick in the 160-199 Years age group of the Mixed 4x200m Free as they lowered the British record.

Having also set national markers in the 4x50m and 4x100m Free Relays, the quartet of Ollie Espinasse, Spencer Turner, Liz Godfrey and Fleur Parker clocked 8:54.25 for the 800m event.

Their time eclipsed the old record by more than 15 seconds, beating GB Police’s 9:11.31 from last year’s British Champs.

Brighton Dolphins were the other relay record-breakers in the session, taking down a seven-year old record in the 160-199 Years men’s 4x100m Freestyle.

The quartet of Andrew Farrell, Paul Allen, Christopher Tait and Matthew Lambert came home in 3:48.86, slicing more than seven seconds off the old record of 3:54.39.

Amanda Heath leads record charge in individual events

There was no shortage of impressive swims in the individual events, with another six records broken.

Spencer’s Amanda Heath marked her first season in the 60-64 Years age group with a European 200m Breaststroke record.

Heath, who won the World title for 55-59 years in Kazan two years ago, clocked 3:14.04 in Aberdeen.

Her time beat the old British record by more than five seconds and means she now holds the British Masters 200m Breast records for the 50-54, 55-59 and 60-64 Years age groups.

Newbury’s David Milburn is also in his first season of a new age group, and lowered his own British record in the 200m Breast.

Having won European silver in the 50-54 Years age group last season, Milburn clocked 2:43.89 to land the British 55-59 Years title.

Lindsey Gowland breaks 13-year old record in 50m Free

Etwall Eagles’ Lindsey Gowland took down a long-standing record in the 60-64 Years 50m Freestyle, breaking Judy Wilson’s time of 31.66 from the 2004 World Championships.

Gowland, competing in the 60-64 Years bracket for the first season, clocked 30.47.

The British record also went in the men’s 60-64 Years age group as Musselburgh’s Ian McKay clocked 27.42 while Mike Hodgson lowered the 50-54 Years record to 25.34.

The only other record of the session came in the women’s 40-44 Years 50m Freestyle as Guildford City’s Michelle Ware lowered her own national marker to 27.66.
