Four-medal start for Team England swimmers at Glasgow 2026
July 24, 2026Team England’s swimmers enjoyed an excellent start to their Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games campaign, collecting four medals on the opening day of competition, including a pair of relay silver medals and two bronze medals.
There was also plenty of success beyond the podium, with several English swimmers booking their places in Saturday’s finals to cap an encouraging first day in the pool.
Leading the way were Team England’s relay squads, who delivered two silver-medal performances.
Freya Anderson, Leah Schlosshan, Freya Colbert and Eva Okaro claimed second place in the Women’s 4x100m Freestyle Relay in a time of 3:35.66, with Abbie Wood, Erin Little, Darcy Revitt and Amalie Smith also contributing with strong performances in the morning heats.
The men’s quartet then matched that achievement later in the evening as Jacob Whittle, Gabe Shepherd, James Guy and Jacob Mills combined to stop the clock in 3:11.69 and secure another silver medal. Ed Mildred, Cam Brooker, Ollie Morgan and Tom Dean also earned medals after helping the team safely through the heats.
Team England’s first swimming medal of Glasgow 2026 had arrived earlier in the session courtesy of Tom Dean, who claimed bronze in the Men’s 200m Individual Medley with a time of 1:57.22. Max Litchfield also featured strongly, finishing fifth in 1:58.62.
Redfern races to bronze
There was further medal success, this time from para-stream athlete Matthew Redfern, as he powered to bronze in the Men’s S13 100m Freestyle.
His time of 56.86 secured the second senior international medal of his career, while Ursula Carroll clocked 1:05.24 to finish sixth in the Women’s S13 100m Freestyle final after improving on her morning swim.

Attention now turns to day two after several English swimmers secured progression from the evening’s semi-finals.
Adam Ramsay-Peaty led the way in the Men’s 100m Breaststroke, qualifying fastest for Saturday’s final in 59.19. Greg Butler also progressed as the sixth-fastest qualifier in 1:00.12, while Max Morgan remains in contention as the second reserve.
