Full programme of National Age Group Championships to return in 2022

Swim England will host a full programme of Water Polo National Age Group Championships for the first time in three years in 2022.

The coronavirus pandemic forced the cancellation of the U17s and U19s competition in both 2020 and 2021 – with the U15s managing to return to action after a two-year hiatus last December.

Dates and venues have been confirmed for all the championships, which will be a ‘welcome return’ to action for players, coaches, clubs and supporters.

Toby King, Swim England Water Polo Leadership Group chair, said: “We’re delighted to be able to announce a full programme for the National Age Group Championships in 2022.

“So many youngsters have missed out on the opportunity to compete in the sport they love so we’re thrilled to see a welcome return of these nationals.

“I know players, coaches and clubs will be relishing the chance to take part in these prestigious championships and we look forward to seeing some extremely competitive games of polo across all age groups.”

Dates and venues

The U17s and U19s finals weekend for both boys and girls will take place at the Liverpool Aquatics Centre on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 May.

Entries will open at 12 noon on Wednesday 16 February and will close at the same time on Wednesday 16 March.

The early rounds for the U19s will take place on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 April, with the U17s in action on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 April.

Meanwhile, the U15s competition is due to return to Sheffield’s Ponds Forge International Pool on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 December.

Cheltenham were crowned national champions in the 2021 girls’ event, with City of Manchester securing the boys’ title.

Details of when entries open will be confirmed in due course.
