The Level 2 Award in British Open Water Swimming (QCF) allows current Swimming Coaches, Teachers or Triathlon Coaches to build on their current skills and acquire specialist knowledge in delivering open water swimming sessions.
This level 2 award is backed by all four British national governing bodies for swimming; Swim England, Swim Wales, Swim Ireland, and Scottish Swimming.

Blended Learning is a more flexible approach where you can complete theory elements of the course online through a virtual pool environment and interactive videos prior to the practical workshops.
Who is the course designed for?
The Level 2 British Open Water Swimming course is aimed at Swimming Coaches or Triathlon Coaches who want to acquire specialist knowledge delivering open water swimming sessions to a range of participants. Level 2 Swimming Teachers are also welcome to attend the course if they have experience of swimming in an open water environment.
This course gives coaches the skills needed to effectively and independently plan, prepare, deliver, monitor and evaluate a series of Open Water training sessions. On successful completion of this qualification you will understand:
- Principles of Swimming in Open Water
- Safe and effective planning and preparation for open water swimming
- Innovative delivery of open water swimming sessions
The Guided Learning Hours for this course is 50. Approximately 16 hours will be spent on face to delivery and then a further 35 hours (approximately) of online learning and assessment and your lesson planning and evaluations etc.

You must be at least 17 years of age and a Swim England Swimming Coach, Triathlon Coach or Swimming Teacher with open water experience.
