Will more records tumble at the Swim England Masters National Championships?

The Swim England Masters National Championships returns this Friday ahead of the three-day event at Ponds Forge International Pool.

This year the event is making history as it is piloting the inclusion of para-swimming into the National Masters Championship for the first time.

Para-swimming will be integrated into the programme as a trial, with medals up for grabs for S1-S14 classified para-swimmers in a number of events.

Competition is always fierce at the championships, with multiple British, European and World records broken each year.

In 2021, records tumbled again with eight World records, five European records and more than 50 British records broken in Sheffield.

Jane Asher was just one of the swimmers who had an exceptional meet in 2021. She set an astonishing five new World records and will be one of those looking for more success this time around.

This year’s event will see swimmers from clubs up and down the nation enter the competition which takes place from 28-30 October.

Who will claim the Otter 150 Cup?

As well as the various individual and relay events, the Swim England Masters Championships will also award the Otter 150 Cup to the competitions highest performing club.

Throughout the three days’ clubs will be awarded points based on their swimmers performances in each of the events.

Last year’s title went the way of Loughborough University who came away with the prestigious award after collecting 199 points over the course of the competition.

Their swimmers achieved 16 British records on their own as they claimed the title by 48 points ahead of East Leeds.

Otter Swimming Club will be looking to reclaim the title that they won in 2019 after another strong fifth place in 2021.

Spectators for the event are welcome free of charge so make sure to come to Ponds Forge to catch the action.
