Swim England Masters National Championships returns to Ponds Forge

The biggest domestic short course meet in masters swimming is set to return to Ponds Forge in 2021.

The Swim England Masters National Championships will be the first national event hosted by Swim England to return to the Sheffield-based venue since the start of the pandemic.

Records tumbled back in 2019, with 66 British records, 15 European records and five world records being broken.

There has been more than 1,300 entries to this year’s championships, which will take place from 29 – 31 October.

Spectators are allowed to attend under current government and local authority guidelines and entry to the event is free of charge with no tickets required.

Everyone attending is required to complete the Covid-19 declaration form in advance and register with the venue’s track and trace system.

World-class display of masters swimming

Those who do attend will be treated to a total of 49 events, with 19 taking place on an action packed opening day.

The Mixed 1500m Freestyle will kick off the three day-long meet, with another 18 events set to be competed on day two.

The third and final day will see a total of 12 events taking place as the Mixed 800m Freestyle closes the show.

The top team will be presented with the Otter 150 Cup, which was won by Otter Swimming Club in 2019.

Earlier this year, Jeroen Peters, Chairperson of the Swim England Masters Working Group, described the championships as ‘a real world-class display of masters swimming’.

He said: “It’s a very exciting time within the masters swimming community.

“Swim England is excited to welcome masters swimmers back to the racing pool and thanks to all of those involved in organising the event.”
