World record for Teddington at Swim England Masters National Champs

A second world record was broken in the final session of day two at the Swim England Masters National Championships.

Teddington’s Women’s 800m Freestyle team set the new best in the 120+ years age group as they claimed gold by more than 40 seconds from their nearest rivals.

The Teddington team of Laure Kearns, Georgia Heyn, Hannah Loughlin and Zoe Liokalos clocked 8:50.47 to finish ahead of Otter, who recorded a time of 9:40.56.

The bronze medal went to Out to Swim, who posted a time of 11:35.07.

Barnet Copthall ensured another record fell in the 200+ years category.

Christine Porter, Cate Jackson, Lisa Dawson and Melissa Cannon’s time of 9:32.70 was a new European record.

Their only competition was from the Spencer team who touched home in 10:58.80.

The oldest category in the competition, 240+ years, also saw a European record set.

Diana Nash, Catherine Chase, Anne Bourne and Suzanne Linton clocked 10:41.84 to take the gold medal for Camphill Ed.

Mid Sussex won the silver medal after recording a time of 11:.06.31.

In the Men’s equivalent race, Warrington M set a new British record for the 160+ Years age group.

The time of 8:13.91 was posted by Ben Harkin, Philip Woods, Trevor Eland and Christopher Rix.

Brighton Dolphins finished in second place with a time of 8:20.83 and third went to Otter, who clocked 8:38.64.

Gloucester’s relay record at Masters National Champs

In the Mixed 200m Freestyle team event, Gloucester set a new European record in the 240+ years age group.

The time of 2:14.32 was set by Jayne Ball, Donald Leatherbarrow, Tony Cherrington and Susan Hodge.

Heyn holds out for European record

Georgina Heyn, of Teddington, set a new European record in the Women’s 200m Breaststroke 30-34 age group.

She posted a time of 2:32.71 to finish ahead of City of Cambridge swimmer Kathryn Gill, who clocked 2:36.05.

Third place went to Sarah Roberts, of Manchester Triathlon, with a time of 4:47.10.

At the other end of the age group categories, 75- year-old Dianne Ford touched home in 3:47.36 to secure a British record.

The Spencer swimmer, who earlier today was part of a world record-breaking relay team, finished ahead of Elaine Bromwich, from Birmingham M, who finished in 5:11.31.

The Men’s 200m Breaststroke event resulted in two new British records.

Ben Harkin set yet another record in the 40-45 years category with a time of 2:26.11.

The Warrington M member touched ahead of team mate Philip Woods, who posted a time of 2:39.65 to take the silver.

Bronze went to Kevin Arundell, from Gravesend, with a time of 2:41.22.

In the 45-49 category, Robert Robson, of Kenilworth Masters Swimming Club, swam a record-breaking 2:26.11, while Bebington’s David Russell touched in 2:31.90.

Nigel Masters, of Swindon Dolphins, had to settle for third place (2:36.19).

50m butterfly success for many

In the Men’s 40-44 age group, there was just 0.26 between a new British record and second place.

Martin Snape, of Silver City, clocked 25.70 to take the record, while Warrington Masters’ Trevor Eland had to settle for second place after clocking 25.96.

Third place went to Neal Smith of Kenilworth Masters (26.59).

The 50-54 year British record was also broken as Guildford City’s Michael Hodgson clocked 26.58.

Second place went to Ian Wilkes, Loughborough, in a time of 28.09, while Mid Sussex’s Mark Salway took home the bronze (29.04).

Hayley Bettinson, of Birmingham M, set a British record in the Women’s 50m Butterfly 55-59 age group.

Her time of 30.99 left her in front of her closet opponent, Debbie Matless, from East Anglian (32.14).

Third place went to Phillipa Williams (Wycombe District) in a time of 33.34.
