2025 GoCardless Swim England National Summer Meet day one medallists

The first day of the 2025 GoCardless Swim England National Summer Meet is over and we’ve seen some action-packed finals, with impressive swims and multiple ties for gold.

The evening session kicked off with the Open/Male 400m Freestyle finals in which Max Sochovsky from Wandsworth and Joshua Drury from City of Birmingham tied for the gold medal with a time of 4:11.25 in the 16 Yrs category.

In the same race, the top four swimmers were separated by just 0.19 seconds and Ernest Darkin from Dulwich Dolphins won the battle for the bronze medal.

Shortly after, the Open/Male 15 Yrs 50 Backstroke final saw another tie for gold. This time around, Ben Carlyle from Grantham Swimming Club and Mount Kelly’s Tobias Braine shared the top step with a time of 28.24, ahead of bronze winner Ryan Lau from City of Birmingham.

The Female finals didn’t have any shared podiums but did see two double-medallists with Haslemere Swimming Club’s Freya Gordon and Harrogate District Swimming Club’s Amaja Waters taking home medals in both of today’s events.

Gordon clinched gold twice – once in the 16 Yrs 200 Free (2:06.81) and once in the 16 Yrs 400 Individual Medley (5:03.42).

In the 14/15 Yrs 200 Freestyle, Waters secured the bronze medal (2:09.57), followed by her swim to gold in the 400 Individual Medley (5:06.50).

The only para-swimmer of the day, Erin Orford from Wycombe District Swimming Club, concluded the first day of the Summer Meet with a time of 3:59.50 in the 150 Individual Medley.
