DiSE athletes impress at the Edinburgh International Swim Meet

Last week, athletes from the DiSE (Diploma in Sporting Excellence) 2024-26 cohort travelled to Scotland’s capital for the Edinburgh International Swim Meet.

They delivered a series of strong performances against a high‑quality field from 13–15 March. The team reached an impressive 54 finals at the Royal Commonwealth Pool across the three day competition.

Led by Team Lead and DiSE Assessor Kerrie Slevin, the meet provided valuable exposure to international style racing conditions.

From the opening session, the swimmers set a high standard. Sadie Hunter delivered one of the standout moments of the meet with a commanding victory in the Junior 200m Butterfly, before adding further top five finishes in the individual medley events.

Gabriella Hunt enjoyed an excellent weekend as she claimed junior titles in both the 50m and 100m Breaststroke, showcasing her strength across the stroke.

Distance specialist Madison Rens also made her mark in the senior events, securing a podium place in the 1500m Freestyle A Final and reaching further distance finals across the meet.

In the backstroke events, Isobel Mather produced a confident swim to win the B Final of the 200m Backstroke.

In the open/male categories, Joe Box delivered a superb performance to take gold in the Junior 200m Backstroke, following it up with another strong finish in the 100m Backstroke.

There were further junior medals in the backstroke events from Henry Taylor and Oliver Davis Tootil, while Oliver Baskerville reached the senior ranks with a third place finish in the 200m Backstroke B Final.

Sprinter Zachariah Dale broke into the 50m Backstroke A Final, placing eighth in a competitive field.

These performances underline the quality emerging through the DiSE pathway, with athletes stepping up to the challenge and gaining valuable experience against strong international opposition throughout the meet.
