Brock breaks Games record as England swimmers secure five-medal haul

Brock Whiston delivered a sensational performance to lead Team England’s medal charge on day four of swimming competition at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

She claimed gold in record-breaking style while fellow para swimmer Iona Winnifrith added bronze in a memorable double podium finish.

Whiston produced the swim of the night in the Women’s SB8 100m Breaststroke final, slashing almost five seconds from her morning heats time to touch in a Commonwealth Games record 1:22.05.

The victory adds Commonwealth gold to the Paralympic silver medallist’s growing collection of international honours.

Team England celebrated a second medal in the race as Winnifrith powered her way to bronze in 1:26.31, while Isabella Haynes also delivered a superb improvement from the heats to place sixth overall with a time of 1:34.35.

Earlier in the evening, 16-year-old Amalie Smith continued her impressive Commonwealth Games debut by securing silver in the Women’s 400m Individual Medley.

Smith produced a lifetime best swim of 4:33.70 to claim her first individual Games medal and underline her status as one of the squad’s rising stars.

Another silver followed in the Women’s 4x200m Freestyle Relay as Freya Colbert, Abbie Wood, Leah Schlosshan and Freya Anderson combined to finish second in 7:50.10.

The result marked the fifth relay silver medal won by Team England swimmers across the opening four days of competition.

Adam Ramsay-Peaty also climbed the podium once again, collecting bronze in the Men’s 50m Breaststroke after stopping the clock at 26.94 to add another major championship medal to his tally.

Away from the medal races, Ed Mildred recorded a fifth-place finish in the Men’s 200m Butterfly, improving on his heats performance to post a time of 1:56.75.

There were also strong performances in the Women’s 100m Freestyle final, where Schlosshan finished seventh in 55.02 and Anderson placed sixth with 54.52 after going quicker than she had in the heats.

Attention now turns to another busy day of racing after a host of Team England swimmers secured places in upcoming finals.

Gabe Shepherd, Jacob Mills and Jacob Whittle all progressed through the Men’s 100m Freestyle, qualifying fifth, sixth and seventh fastest respectively.

Lauren Cox also strengthened her medal hopes by qualifying third fastest for the Women’s 50m Backstroke final in 27.85, while Imogen Clark and Gabrielle Idle-Beavers booked their places in the Women’s 50m Breaststroke final after progressing as the third and sixth fastest qualifiers.

From Whiston’s record-breaking gold to Smith’s first individual Commonwealth accolade and another relay podium, Team England’s swimmers ensured there was plenty to celebrate in Glasgow.
