Time running out to enter Cerebral Palsy Sport National Swimming Championships

Swimmers have less than a week to submit their entries for the Cerebral Palsy Sport National Swimming Championships 2020.

Registration for the event – which takes place on Sunday 5 April at Nottingham’s Harvey Hadden Sports Village – closes on Friday 6 March.

To mark the start of Cerebral Palsy Awareness month on Sunday 1 March, organisers are now encouraging swimmers to make sure they don’t miss out on competing in the championships.

Adi Fawcett, Cerebral Palsy Sport Chief Operating Officer, said: “We are looking forward to a competitive day of racing at the National Championships this year and to seeing everyone in action.

“It is great to be holding this event at Harvey Hadden Pool in Nottingham, who have been a fantastic supporter of this event for a number of years.

“Swimming is one of our key sports and we would like to thank everyone involved from the competitors and their families to the officials and volunteers who always help to deliver such a successful day of racing.”

Held annually, the championships are open to individuals aged 10 or above (as of the 31 December 2020) who have a diagnosis of non-progressive brain damage with motor control dysfunction such as cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury, stroke or similar conditions.

Participants who do not have the above stated diagnosis but have a physical disability may enter but will swim as a guest and will not be eligible to achieve medals.

Similarly, only entrants with a valid British Swimming or IPC Classification will be eligible to achieve medals – however entrants without a classification are welcome to swim as guests.

Swimmers will be able to enter up to five events and have a choice of butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle and individual medley.

Anyone wishing to register can find the entry pack and form on the Cerebral Palsy Sport website.
