Clogg and Burras on record-breaking form in Sheffield

Elliot Clogg and Lewis Burras finished day three of the British Swimming Championships 2017 with a shared grip on the English 17 Yrs 100m Freestyle record.

Southport swimmer Burras was the first to lower the marker, clocking 50.08 in the morning heats to qualify for the senior final.

But Clogg, who finished 16th on his European Junior debut last season, matched the time in the evening session, taking the touch by 0.93 seconds in the junior final.

And while Burras fell 0.03 seconds short of the time in the senior final, he emerged with plenty of credit as the youngest of the field, touching within half a second of silver on 50.11 in seventh.

Charlie Hutchison dominates 400m IM final

Ellesmere College Titans’ Charlie Hutchison was the most dominant junior gold medallist on day three, winning the 400m Individual Medley title by more than five seconds.

Despite being the youngest in the field, the 14-year old stormed away from his rivals to a personal best 4:26.26 – the second fastest in history by a British swimmer for that age group.

Teenagers Nathan Hughes and Thomas Dean also impressed to reach the senior final of the 400m IM, finishing fourth and sixth respectively.

Hughes took his PB down to 4:20.84 while Dean clocked a PB 4:21.23 as the pair moved to second and third in the historic British 16 Yrs age group rankings.

Schlosshan retains junior crown in 200m Fly

City of Leeds’ Ciara Schlosshan took her first gold of the meet as she retained her title in the Junior 200m Butterfly final.

The 15-year old was nearly a second clear of the field as she took the touch in 2:13.04 ahead of Scotland’s Nikki Miller (2:13.92). Schlosshan’s 13-year old Leeds teammate Charlotte Robinson also caught the eye, holding her own in a junior final in sixth with a PB 2:17.21.

While Schlosshan finished on top in the junior final, 16-year old Emily Large impressed in the senior final, repeating her result from 12 months ago to win bronze.

The Newcastle swimmer, who had won two junior golds across the opening two days in Sheffield, touched in a season’s best 2:09.89.

Anna Maine clocks PB for Junior 50m Freestyle gold

Woking’s Anna Maine took the only other junior gold of the night, winning the 50m Freestyle with a PB 26.20.

The 16-year old, who won European Junior bronze over 100m Backstroke last year, touched out Guildford City’s Alicia Wilson (26.23 PB) in the tightest final of the night.

The senior 50m Freestyle final also featured a promising junior in the shape of Freya Anderson.

The 16-year old finished fourth as she took her PB down to 25.44 – just 0.16 seconds shy of Fran Halsall’s British Age Group record set at the 2006 European Junior Championships.
