
Recruitment underway for Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games Head Coach
April 3, 2025With the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games fast approaching, Swim England have begun the search for the next Head Coach of Team England’s swimming and para-swimming teams.
That person will lead the team in Scotland as Team England looks to build on its momentum from a home games in Birmingham, where the nation’s swimmers and para-swimmers equalled their record medal haul.
At the Sandwell Aquatics Centre, Team England claimed 32 medals in front of a roaring home crowd, tying the number they earnt in Manchester 20 years prior.
And with less than 500 days until the Games return, Swim England is recruiting for a Head Coach to lead the team towards its key objectives of…
- Unifying a ‘One Team England’
- Maximising performance and outcomes
- Creating a pathway to LA 2028 and Brisbane 2032
- Enhancing Strength and depth
- Investing in people
- Increasing engagement in aquatics
The process of selecting the Head Coach for the Games in Glasgow is designed to be simple and accessible for all interested coaches.
Applicants will be required to submit an ‘expressions of interest’ for the position by Monday 21 April 2025. This will require a video application answering three questions to outline relevant experience and their motivation for the role.
Shortlisted candidates will then be contacted for further discussions and all applicants unsuccessful of securing an interview will receive feedback.

Speaking on the announcement, Swim England Head of Performance and Team Leader for the swimming and para-swimming teams in Glasgow, Richard Blackshaw, said: “With the countdown to the Glasgow well underway, we want to find the head coach that will help us to build on the success of 2018 and 2022 Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast and on home soil in Birmingham.
“The Team England Head Coach will play a pivotal role in getting our athletes in the best physical and mental condition ahead of the Games in Glasgow. They’ll be key in helping us with our preparation, ensuring that key relationships can be fostered between the coaches and our athletes to help us create that One Team England feeling.
“We have designed the recruitment process to be as open and transparent as possible, making it simple and accessible for all coaches who would like to apply.
“We are excited to see all the applications as we start to build the best possible team to support us on the run-up and during the competition in Scotland.”
