Hannah Russell and Bethany Firth on record-breaking form

Paralympic champions Hannah Russell and Bethany Firth clocked British 50m Backstroke records at the Edinburgh International Meet 2017.

Russell set a PB of 31.59 to lower her own record in the S12 classification, beating her 31.66 effort from the International Swim Meet in Berlin earlier in March.

The 20-year old also went under her existing world record time of 31.62, set on the opening of 50m of the S12 100m Backstroke final in which she won gold at Rio 2016 last summer.

Like Russell, S14 swimmer Firth also set her first long course PB of the 2017 season.

The 21-year old, who won three golds and a silver at Rio 2016, stopped the clock on 30.57 in Scotland.

Firth’s time was 0.40 seconds faster than her opening 50m when she won gold in the S14 100m Backstroke in Rio.
