Adam Peaty lands double gold at Manchester International Meet

Olympic champion Adam Peaty dusted off the cobwebs with double gold at this weekend’s Manchester International Meet.

The 22-year old was making his seasonal debut, competing for the first time since he won the 50m and 100m Breaststroke double at July’s World Championships in Budapest.

Peaty had few problems repeating the sprint double, claiming the 100m Breast crown in 59.88 before adding the 50m win in 27.71.

The Loughborough University swimmer also clocked his first long course 200m Breast efforts since 2016, taking silver in the final on 2:16.62 behind Loughborough teammate James Wilby’s 2:14.92.

Walker-Hebborn wins backstroke gold and silver

Chris Walker-Hebborn – Olympic medley relay silver medallist alongside Peaty in 2016 – was also in action in Manchester.

The University of Bath swimmer will hope to defend his Commonwealth 100m Backstroke title at Gold Coast next year.

He won the 50m Back crown at Manchester Aquatics Centre, clocking 25.89 after a 25.85 heats swim, before 100m Back silver in 56.27 behind Wales’ Xavier Castelli (55.19).

Series of double golds for English swimmers

World short course champion Molly Renshaw claimed a double gold on the first day, winning the 200m IM (2:16.28) and 200m Breast (2:29.17).

There were also doubles for Loughborough’s Sarah Vasey in the 50m Breast (31.64) and 100m Breast (1:08.27) and City of Sheffield’s Ellie Faulkner in the 200m Free (1:59.48) and 400m Free (4:14.88).

In the men’s events, Alex Bowen touched first in the 50m Free (23.06) and 50m Fly (24.82), the latter tied with Northampton’s Danny Savage.

There was also a tie for the touch in the men’s 100m Freestyle final, with Elliot Clogg and Jarvis Parkinson home in 51.30.

Loughborough University’s Parkinson had already claimed the 200m IM crown in 2:02.05.
