Records tumble on day four of British Summer Championships

Six new records were set on the fourth day of the British Summer Championships at Sheffield.

Four British Para-swimming and two age group records were broken during the finals session at Ponds Forge International Pool.

Tully Kearney, Zara Mullooly and Stephen Clegg all set records in their heat swims and then broke them again in the finals.

Kearney (S5) clocked 38.08 in the Women’s MC50m Freestyle heats and the City of Manchester Aquatics swimmer lowered that time in the final to 37.42 on her way to the bronze medal.

In the same race, Mullooly (S10) finished in 29.06 in her heat and bettered that in the final as she recorded a time of 29.01 on her way to fifth place.

Eleanor Robinson claimed silver in the same event as she also set a new best time.

The S6 Northampton swimmer finished in 34.09 to take second place alongside a British record.

City of Sunderland’s Clegg broke the S12 British record in the heats of the Men’s MC 50m Freestyle in 24.92 – and then went even quicker in the final to claim the bronze medal.

He finished in 24.90 to take third behind Lewis White (S9) and Ryan Crouch (S9).

Michael Klimaszewski set a new British best of 57.89 on his way to gold in the Men’s 13-14 Years 100m Butterfly

And Matthew Richards is also a British record holder after clocking 54.51 as he won the Men’s 16 Years 100m Butterfly title.
