Toby Robinson added to Team England swimming team for Commonwealth Games

Distance freestyle specialist Toby Robinson says being selected for the Commonwealth Games is a ‘dream come true’.

Robinson will join Team England’s swimming team for this summer’s Games, as the countdown continues to the first day of action in Birmingham later this month.

The 25-year-old will be making his Commonwealth Games debut in his home region of the West Midlands, the place he says has ‘shaped me into the athlete I am today’ in a recent social media post.

Hailing from Wolverhampton, Robinson will be the most local athlete across the entire aquatics cohort – and he is relishing the opportunity to get into the water at the Sandwell Aquatics Centre.

He said: “Being selected to represent England in the Commonwealth Games, in my home city, is an absolute dream come true for me and something I am very proud of.

“I am eagerly looking forward to returning to the Black Country and racing for a medal!”

Robinson, who trains at Loughborough University, comes fresh off the back of a third World Championships in Budapest in June, where he competed in the Men’s 10km Marathon Swimming event.

With experience in both open water and pool swimming, he will now make his Team England debut inside the newly-built Sandwell Aquatics Centre.

Robinson joins the team, replacing Max Litchfield following his withdrawal from the Commonwealth Games.

The action at the Sandwell Aquatics Centre kicks starts on Friday 29 July and runs through to Wednesday 3 August.
