British youngsters win 25 medals in impressive display at Canadian event
December 16, 2019Great Britain were a dominant presence at the Ontario Junior International 2019 with all 10 members of the team winning a medal.
The Brits won a total of 25 medals, including 10 golds, with European Junior medallists Honey Osrin, Ed Mildred and Matt Richards among those to enjoy success.
Richards won five gold medals, cruising to victory in the 50m, 100m and 200m Freestyle, as well as the 50m Butterfly and as part of the Men’s 400m Medley Relay team.
He looks to have an esteemed successor in 15-year-old Jacob Whittle, who has enjoyed a breakthrough year on the national and international stages.
The Derventio swimmer broke his British junior short course 100m Freestyle record at the Swim England National Winter Championships earlier this month and he lowered that mark further twice on the final day of competition.
After breaking the 49-second barrier for the first time in the heats, he went almost half a second quicker in the final to win the bronze medal in 48.29 seconds.
Whittle also won bronze in the 50m Freestyle.

Tamryn Van Selm won three medals, claiming gold in the Women’s 200m Freestyle and silver in the 400m Freestyle, before joining Medi Harris, Katie Goodburn and Sophie Freeman to win the women’s 400m Medley Relay title.
After winning back-to-back silver medals in the 200m Freestyle and 100m Butterfly, Ed Mildred got his hands on a gold as he won the 200m Butterfly title by more than three seconds, clocking a personal best time of 1:55.48.
Warrender Baths Club’s Goodburn left her best until last, winning gold in the Women’s 50m Breaststroke and then topping the podium with the 400m Medley Relay team in the final session.
