National Winter Championships 2019 in numbers

The biggest English swimming meet of the winter months is back!

Hundreds of competitors will descend on Sheffield’s Ponds Forge International Pool for the Swim England National Winter Championships from Thursday 5 to Sunday 8 December.

Here is a look at the key numbers as swimmers from across the country aim to head into the New Year in style.

The challengers

Almost 800 swimmers will be competing at Ponds Forge.

Short course

This year’s Championships will once again be short course, with all races taking place in a 25-metre pool.

Action-packed

There will be more than 100 events across the four days of competition, including open and youth finals.

Medal hunt

That means there will be a total of 330 medals up for grabs.

Record breakers

At the 2018 Championships, a total of four records were broken. Max Litchfield and Imogen Clark both set new British records, while Ed Mildred twice broke the British junior record in the Men’s 200m Butterfly.

Clubs

There will be plenty of noise from the 165 clubs represented.

Squad goals

Loughborough University is the biggest club in attendance, taking 54 swimmers to Sheffield.
