2024 Paralympic Games

Following the success of the London divers, it was the turn of the London Paraswimmers to shine.  Two London athletes were part of the 27 strong Paralympic GB swimming team in Paris this year: Brock Whiston (London Disability and Barking & Dagenham) and Alice Tai (Ealing).  Dave Heathcock, head coach of Ealing Sc, was also part of the GB para coaching team in Paris.  With the arena filled with 15,000 cheering fans it was an incredible atmosphere.

Brock was competing in 4 events: 100m Breaststroke, 200m Individual Medley, 400m Freestyle and 100m Butterfly; with Alice competing in 5 events 100m Freestyle, 200m Individual Medley, 400m Freestyle, 50m freestyle and 100m Butterfly. Both athletes swimming in the S8 category.  For Alice this was her second Paralympic Games after Rio in 2016 but was Brock’s  Paralympic debut – and wow didn’t they shine collecting 7 medals between them and dominating the S8 category.

Alice took a medal in each of her events. Dominating the 100m bk winning gold by a clear margin and also picking up a second gold and becoming a double Paralympic Champion winning the 50m Freestyle.  She also took silver in a strong 400m freestyle and bronze in the 200m IM and 100m butterfly.

Brock not to be outdone claimed her 1st Paralympic Championship title in some style in the 200m IM, turning in 6th place after the opening 100m she battled back touching in gold!  Two days earlier she also claimed her 1st Paralympic medal, silver, in the 100m Breaststroke. Brock went onto then claim 5th in 400m fc less than a second outside the medals and finish 4th 0.09 outside bronze in the 100m butterfly.

A huge congratulations on behalf of the whole London region on your incredible achievements and performances.
