Aquatic sports in the London region

Alexander MacDonald appointed as Chair of the Swimming Committee

Swim England London is pleased to announce that the Board has appointed Alexander MacDonald as the new Swimming Discipline Chair of the Region.

Following an open recruitment process, Alexander accepted the role and takes up the position with immediate effect.

Alexander has been involved with multiple aspects of swimming and aquatics for the past 20 years, including coaching, coach education, competition management, club management, volunteering, and officiating.

Currently coaching with Chelsea & Westminster Swimming Club and has been coaching in the London Region since his relocation from Canada. This has provided Alexander a platform to coach and work within athletes from an age group level through to an international stage. In addition to actively coaching within the Region, it has also allowed him to gain first-hand networking opportunities with clubs and has allowed him to gain a better understanding of what coaches, swimmers and clubs insights are of the necessary requirements to bring the sport forward within the region.

Along with being a qualified Senior Level Coach in both Canada and the UK, Alexander is a passionate educator and accredited Swim England Tutor and actively delivers the Coach Qualification for Swim England and the Institute of Swimming.

Finally, outside of coaching and coach education Alexander has been involved in several volunteer roles for National and International aquatics events which he feels has provided him exposure into the finer details around event management and organisation. Some of the major sporting events he has been involved in are the 2009 & 2013 Canada Summer Games, 2016 European Aquatics Championships, 2018 European Aquatics Championships, Diving World Series 2019 and the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Alexander feels fortunate and privileged to be appointed to the Swim England London Swimming Chair position and is looking forward to using his past and current experience in aquatics to work with the London Region and its Committees to continue to bring swimming within London forward.
