Swim England London Statement in response to the London Aquatic Centre Petition

A spokesperson for Swim England London said:

“We are aware of a petition calling on support from the Mayor of London and the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) regarding the use of the London Aquatics Centre for the Swim England London Regional Swimming Championships. Like all of our Clubs and members, we are keen to make sure that all Regional aquatic events and competitions can be held in a London venue. We also recognise the substantial financial pressure that pool operators are facing, with soaring energy costs and no significant support from central Government for the industry we all work in.

To that end we have been working very closely over a number of months with senior stakeholders from partner organisations – with GLL and the LLDC on immediate events, and with the LLDC on the future of Regional competitions at the prestigious London Aquatics Centre, taking into account the need for our partners to achieve a balanced community programme whilst hosting our events.

These ongoing discussions are drawing to a positive conclusion, and we hope to be able to inform our members shortly of what this means for all Regional activities in the short-term and from 2024 onwards. Our Board and sport sub-committees continue to work hard to produce event business plans which will support the use of the London Aquatics Centre for our events.”
