Youth Panel Closes ‘Reaching Up’ Webinar Series

The Swim England London Youth Advisory panel has now officially closed their first project – a set of live sessions which supported the development of athletes’ physical and mental wellbeing during the lockdown period. The sessions spanned across 5 weeks and included some of Great Britain’s top athletes, coaches and support staff, offering an exclusive insight into what it takes to reach the top and excel in sport.

Attendance was strong, with over 200 athletes joining across all the sessions, and able to ask questions live on zoom or sent in via a Microsoft form. These sessions were welcomed by the panel’s chair, Elliot McHugh:

“We are delighted that our sessions were so well attended and to know that our Swim England athletes are benefitting from the knowledge and expertise of expert support staff, coaches and athletes. Our panel hopes that these sessions provided that much needed support throughout the lockdown phase and left athletes with the tools to excel in their sport when indoor pools open.

Our panel aims to keep the momentum up and continue to deliver projects which engage and inspire the youth.”

One attendee left a positive comment in response to the series:

“It was great for my children to hear how top athletes started their career and that it doesn’t always go to plan, and that there are a lot of ups and also downs on the way. Also that there is not one particular way you have to go. And to hear that from a top athlete as well as a coach is just amazing.”

We hope to be able to share the recordings in due course – please keep an eye out on social media and the website.

A big thank you to all the regional staff who helped bring this project to life and offered support with the delivery of the series. We hope that you’re making the most of the re-opening of indoor pools!
