Freya Anderson and James Guy amongst British competitors for 2020 Flanders Cup

James Guy and Freya Anderson headline a British contingent of 31 swimmers heading to Belgium for the 2020 Flanders Cup.

The competition, which takes place in Antwerp on 18-19 January, will be the first international meet of the season for the British swimmers.

Guy will compete alongside five of his National Centre Bath teammates, including Kieran Bird, Georgia Coates, Jessica Fullalove, Calum Jarvis and Cameron Kurle.

The 24-year-old will compete in the 200m Freestyle, 100m Butterfly and 100m Freestyle as he steps up his preparations for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Guy holds the 400m Freestyle meet record, which he set back in 2015.

Anderson will look to continue her career-best form, having won her first senior individual medals at international level in December 2019.

The Ellesmere College Titans swimmer stunned the experienced field to win gold in the 50m Freestyle at the European Short Course Championships in Glasgow, before breaking a British record to claim her second European title.

She won gold in the 100m and 200m Freestyle at the 2019 Flanders Cup.

Warming up in winter

Anderson is one of 14 Titans swimmers to compete in Antwerp, as they look to build on their winter training block.

Elliot Clogg, Charlie Brown, Cameron Brooks-Clarke and Cole Hewitt will represent City of Sheffield Swim Squad, while Commonwealth silver medallist Holly Hibbott and Katie Matts will feature for Stockport Metro.

Talented youngster Jacob Whittle will fly the flag for Derventio eXcel as he steps up at senior level after a breakthrough year on the junior national and international stages.

The 15-year-old won a bronze medal at the European Junior Championships, before winning two medals at the Ontario Junior International.

City of Manchester Swim Team have taken 11 swimmers to Antwerp, including Sam Horrocks and Paralympic bronze medallist Lewis White, while Jennifer Green will compete for Wigan BEST.
