Aquatics clubs could win £5,000 as part of nationwide #ClubsInCrisis competition

Aquatics clubs could win £5,000 in a nationwide competition to help raise awareness of the massive social value of sports clubs and organisations.

Charity Made By Sport is offering the financial incentive as part of its #ClubsInCrisis initiative which aims to highlight the importance of clubs and their need for critical funding.

Research carried out by Made in Sport has revealed that 40 per cent of clubs were in financial difficulty before the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic – and that around 25 per cent of community clubs won’t be able to reopen their doors again.

A spokesperson for Made By Sport said: “We estimate there are more than 150,000 grassroots clubs and organisations that provide an essential outlet for young people to not only be physically active but also play a vital role in tackling societal issues such as youth employment, crime reduction, mental health and developing key life skills.

“Research revealed that more than 40 per cent of these clubs were either in deficit or just breaking even before the pandemic, with many operating on less than £10,000 per year and half led by volunteers.

“Today an estimated 25 per cent of community clubs may not be able to open their doors again.

“The social impact of this problem is exacerbated by the fact that more than half of the clubs most at risk are in the most deprived areas of the UK.

“We can’t let this happen. Help us to tell the stories of #ClubsInCrisis to prevent our clubs closing for good – and you might win £5,000 in cash support for your club.”

Any sports clubs/organisations are welcome to enter the competition by completing a three step process:

Step 1: Record a 1-2 minute video

  • This will explain what your club does
  • How it addresses key social issues such as – developing life skills, developing employability skills, improving mental health, building stronger communities, and reducing crime and anti-social behaviour
  • How the club’s closure could impact you and the community and how the #ClubsInCrisis funding will make a difference.

Step 2: Post the video

  • Upload the video onto your social media using the #ClubsInCrisis

Step 3: Complete entry on the Made By Sport website

Entries are open until December 10 and the winners will be contacted by the end of December.
