Water Safety Awards video1 April 2021
The Swim England Water Safety Awards are complementary Awards available to learners who are undertaking the Learn to Swim Stages 1-7 of the Swim England Learn to Swim Programme.
There are three Water Safety Awards covering essential skills in water safety, personal survival and self-rescue. These are mapped to Learn to Swim Stages 3, 5 and 7.
Why should we deliver the Water Safety Awards as part of our lessons programme?
There are around 400 fatal accidental drownings per year in the UK. Almost half (44%) of those victims had fallen into water unexpectedly when they drowned.
Swim England is proud to be part of the National Water Safety Forum (NWSF) – a group that has been developed to address these statistics and ensure water safety and self-rescue remains at the forefront of swimming activity for children and young people. Other organisations in the group include the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS) and Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).
The Water Safety Awards are aligned to the most current water safety guidance. They have been written and reviewed in partnership with the RLSS and the RNLI.
Here’s why GO Gateshead deliver the Water Safety Awards…
“… in every survey of our customers, teaching children to be safe in and around water comes out as the most important reason for joining swimming lessons.
“… these lessons have a real wow factor, providing fun and engaging activities which stick in the minds of swimmers and the skills and knowledge that could one day save their life.”
