ASA Swimming Club wins national Volunteer Management Award

14 July 2014

Retford Swimming Club have been recognised for their excellence in volunteer management at the 2014 Community Sport and Recreation Awards.

The annual awards, organised by the Sport and Recreation Alliance, recognise sports organisations and bodies for the work they do in their local communities, and cover a range of categories such as Innovation, Green Thinking and School Links.

Clubs self-nominated for the awards, and Retford fought off strong competition in the Volunteer Management group to bag themselves the top award and £1,000 cash for the club. Representatives from the club were presented with their award by HRH the Earl of Wessex at St James’s Palace in London. Lucy Palfryman is a member of the ASA National Youth Forum, and collected the award on behalf of the club.

“The club is delighted to have won such a prestigious award, highlighting the hard work and commitment all of our volunteers show.” Lucy said. “It was an honour to collect the award on behalf of the clubs swimmers, volunteers and committee. It really is a testament to show how far the club has progressed over the last few years.”

The ASA would like to congratulate Retford on their well deserved success – it is fantastic that our clubs have been publically recognised for their continued hard work and dedication to the sport.
