We get a lot of frequently asked questions (FAQs) from clubs here at Swim England, so we thought we’d put our popular club membership process FAQs together with answers for you.

What is a club and how does a club affiliate to Swim England?

Swim England regulations state that: "A club must comprise a group of people who join together for the common purpose of taking part in swimming related activities and must be organised and managed on a democratic basis."

The name of the club should include some reference to the club’s normal area of activity and location but must not have a similar name to, or which could be confused with, another club in existence.

The club shall adopt a constitution modelled on Swim England recommended club constitution and be approved by the region. In order to affiliate to Swim England a club is required to contact their regional office.

What is the correct procedure to follow when two or more clubs wish to merge?

Clubs wishing to merge will need to contact their Regional Office.

How do I register new members or make a category transfer?

The Online Membership System (OMS) allows clubs to add new members and change a members category and submit these to Swim England for processing.

Does Swim England need to be aware of the Club Officers?

Yes, club officers’ information can be updated using the Online Membership System (OMS).

How do I register a member who is already a member of another club?

Add the member’s details to the Online Membership System as you would a new member.

What is the ranked club?

Swimmers who are members of more than one club can select one club for ranking purposes - the ranked club name will appear on the ranking lists. The ranked club is normally the club whose name they compete under in major events.

What is the procedure if a member leaves a club?

Clubs can lapse members through the Online Membership System.

Can I register a member urgently for Swim England Competition entry?

Yes, add the member details to the Online Membership System (OMS) and submit this for processing. You can request this to be done urgently by emailing renewals@swimming.org.

How do I obtain a current club membership list?

Membership lists can be downloaded from the Reports section of the Online Membership System (OMS).

How do I change a members data protection choices?

Once a member is registered with Swim England only the individual member can change their data protection choices. To do this members can login to their own personal area of the Online Membership System (OMS).

How do I change a member’s ranked club?

Once a member is registered with Swim England only the individual member can change their ranked club. To do this members can login to their own personal area of the Online Membership System (OMS).
