Swim England applauds Leisure Loop’s leadership in aquatic sustainability
13 August 2025 Swim England NewsSwim England has spotlighted the outstanding work of Leisure Loop in advancing sustainability across the aquatics sector, recognising the organisation as a trailblazer in helping leisure facilities reduce their environmental impact.
As the sector continues to strive to reduce its impact on the environment, Leisure Loop has emerged as a key player in supporting facilities to become more sustainable.
Through innovative practices, resource-conscious operations and a commitment to long-term environmental responsibility, Leisure Loop is helping shape a more sustainable future for swimming and aquatic sports.
One of Leisure Loop’s initiatives is its closed-loop recycling scheme, which enables swimmers and swimming pools to collect and recycle used equipment such as goggles, floats, armbands, swim caps, pool noodles and flip flops.

These items, which would typically end up in landfill, are instead repurposed into new products for use within leisure facilities – such as recycled changing room materials.
The scheme provides participating pools with 100-litre recycling points, encouraging swimmers and staff to contribute to a zero-waste-to-landfill goal.
Leisure Loop also tracks the volume of waste collected through its Live Waste Tracker, helping facilities measure their environmental impact and progress over time.
Already, the scheme has diverted almost two tonnes of waste away from landfill, saving 981kg of CO2 and offsetting the equivalent of driving 2,388 miles in a car.

Andy Salmon, Chief Executive of Swim England, praised the organisation’s efforts: “At Swim England, we are committed to promoting best practice across the sector, and sustainability is a vital part of that.
“Leisure Loop is leading by example – demonstrating how leisure facilities can operate more sustainably while continuing to serve their communities.
“Their work is already helping to inspire a wider shift in how we think about sustainability in aquatics.”
Luke Parkinson, the founder of Leisure Loop, added: “We’re delighted to be recognised by Swim England for our work in sustainability.
“Our goal is to support swimmers and leisure operators in making meaningful, measurable changes that benefit both the environment and their long-term viability.
“It’s about creating a future where aquatic facilities are not only accessible and inclusive, but also more environmentally sustainable.”
