Jane Nickerson praises patience of Swim England’s over 18 club members10 May 2021
Delighted Swim England chief executive Jane Nickerson has praised the patience of over 18 members after they were given the green light to return to club training sessions next week.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced further relaxation of the coronavirus restrictions will go ahead as planned on Monday 17 May.
Step Three of the roadmap out of lockdown will allow organised adult sport and exercise classes to restart indoors – meaning over 18s can train with their clubs once again rather being forced to attend public swim sessions.
Jane said: “It has been a long wait for our over 18 members across all our fantastic sports.
“Why this hasn’t been allowed since Step Two will forever baffle and frustrate me but this is a day to celebrate and I can’t wait to see our older members right back where they belong – in the water with their clubs.
“I commend them for their patience and know that their clubs are looking forward to welcoming them back from next week.”
Jane also welcomed the announcement group exercise can resume – as so many people rely aqua classes to get active.
She said: “For many people, being active in the water is the only way they can exercise.
“It’s great to see that aqua exercise classes will be able to resume as well, especially as they play a key role in helping people maintain their physical and mental wellbeing.”
The final stage for the roadmap out of lockdown is scheduled for Monday 21 June, when the Government hopes to remove all legal restrictions on social contact.
